Morning: Arrive Datong. Visit Yungang Grottoes (UNESCO, 45 major caves, 59,000+ Buddhas) — featured in Chapter 1. Afternoon: Huayan Temple and Shanhua Temple, two Liao/Jin masterpieces. Evening: Datong's ancient city wall at sunset. Welcome dinner with Shanxi knife-cut noodles.

Morning: Drive to Foguang Temple on Mount Wutai — one of only three surviving Tang Dynasty wooden buildings in China. Its Great East Hall (built 857 AD) is the game's inspiration for the ancient temple levels. Afternoon: Nanchan Temple, another Tang survival. Stay at a monastery guesthouse.
